Celebrate International Waffle Day every day with these delicious suggestions for enjoying the perfect waffle in the Mile High City!

We’re going to use this as an excuse to celebrate with the world, but International Waffle Day can be every day on my calendar. The cavities that hold your fresh jam or syrup allow for the complete sweet savoring of every bite. You can venture as far into dessert mode as your palate craves selecting your favorite toppings and flavorings like butter, fruits, sprinkles, whipped cream, etc. And if you’re like me, the plain batter is not enough. Maybe you would like some melted chocolate chips or, my personal favorite, blueberries.

While..I..love the 1950s “l’eggo my eggo” waffles, the holiday began in Sweden in the 1600s from a play on words. Våffeldagen translates to “Waffle Day” and is celebrated on March 25 because of its similarity to Vårfrudagen “Day of Our Lady”, which is when the Archangel Gabriel appeared to Mary to inform her she would be pregnant with the son of God. Those waffles were thinner with shallower crevices and charmingly heart-shaped. A hundred years later, the brilliant idea to add sugar and butter to the recipe created a sweeter base. The Belgians famously influenced waffle history a hundred years after with deeper delicious mini pools to maximize the gusto of devouring a waffle.

If your appetite for a tasty meal has been revved, get your mates together, and locate your nearest waffle maker. We’ve gotten creative with three suggestions on different ways you can enjoy today’s celebrated treat.

Waffle Brothers

700 E 1st Ave Denver
1707 Lafayette St Denver

With over 30 waffle menu items to choose from, this might be the best option for you to celebrate International Waffle Day. Originally serving from a stand, Waffle Brothers have been treating Denver to their waffles since 2007, including a stint on 16th Street. Today you can visit one of their two brick-and-mortar local locations, and if you’re vacationing in Sin City, there’s a third location waiting to serve you.

Brutal Poodle

1967 South Broadway, Denver, CO 80210

If you’re more into savory,  Brutal Poodle’s Chicken & Waffles with jalapeño cheddar cornbread waffle, hand-battered chicken breast, and sriracha is a great option. As one of Denver’s best chicken-slinging establishments, you can also catch them competing at Chicken Fight.

Snowl Cafe

1930 S Havana St #5 -#6, Aurora, CO 80014

Creativity for the waffle didn’t stop with the Belgians. The Japanese created taiyaki, the fun fish waffle cone, for serving or topping desserts. If you want something out of the ordinary, while still enjoying the food of the day, consider paying Snowl Cafe a visit on the popular, foodie Havana Street.
