You’re not imagining it, Negronis are everywhere this week. Not only is this the perfect time to sip a classic and try a twist, but right now ordering the cocktail also supports a good cause.
For 12 years Negroni Week has been going strong. Imbibe Magazine launched the celebration in 2013 as a way to celebrate the classic cocktail and raise money for charity. What began with 120 participating bars has since grown to thousands, including dozens right here in Colorado, and has raised over $5 million for worthy causes.
This year, a portion of cocktail sales goes to Slow Food, supporting the mission to create a world where all people can eat food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it, and good for the planet.
In Denver and beyond, Negroni Week runs from September 22 to 28, with offerings ranging from faithful renditions to playful riffs, including one inspired by pizza and others designed to sip alongside dessert or as a sweet treat in and of itself.
Raise your cocktail glass for a good cause. Here are 11spots to find a truly fantastic Negroni this week in and around Denver.
Negroni Defined

The classic Negroni itself is straightforward with equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. Legend has it the drink started as a request for more booze by Count Camillo Negroni in 1919. He requested gin to replace the soda water in the Americano at Caffè Casoni in Florence.
The result was a bitter, herbal, and spirit-forward cocktail that’s perfectly balanced. Plus, the drink’s brilliant red hue feels just right as we transition into fall. Many add a slice of orange to garnish it, bringing out the seasonal colors even more.
Pizzeria Alberico

Pizzeria Alberico has serious Negroni cred thanks to the dozens of vermilion Campari bottles lining the bar overhead. The design statement transports you straight to Italy and assures your Negroni will never run dry. Today, the Neapolitan pizza restaurant is serving a few riffs on the classic cocktail.
For example, the Regalo Rosa, a Negroni sour with a bitter backbone from the Campari and grapefruit. There’s also the Red Skies at Night, a nutty, warming cocktail with dark rum and coffee melding with the bitter orange from Campari. Then the Boulevardier, a version that swaps out bold whiskey for gin. 1730 Pearl St., Boulder, pizzeriaalberico.com

Serious Negroni aficionados should head to Lady Jane for a different variation of the cocktail every night of Negroni Week. The LoHi cocktail bar looks to have one of the most extensive Negroni menus this fall. Bartenders make a house Negroni with Leopold Bros Navy Strength Gin and a White Negroni with Family Jones Gin.
