Many of us celebrate Cinco de Mayo as a way to eat all the tacos and drink all the margaritas, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Where the holiday originally started as a way to commemorate the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, in the United States we have taken the occasion to pay honor to Mexican culture and heritage.

No matter how you enjoy this May 5, 2025, here’s 20 ways and events taking place in and near Denver.

Cinco de Mayo Festival in Civic Center Park

Get down with all things Cinco de Mayo at the two-day fiesta on May 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Listen to live Latino bands and mariachi, take in the parade at 11 a.m. on Saturday, join or watch the Chihuahua race on Saturday, and take your love of tacos to the next level with a taco eating contest on Sunday. There will be plenty of food vendors too at the free event. 101 14th Ave., Denver, cincodemayodenver.com
